Ministry of industry and information technology: encourage the comprehensive recovery rate of alumina to reach over 80%
The ministry of industry and information technology (miit) and the national development and reform commission (NDRC) jointly issued a notice on promoting the orderly development of alumina industry in order to address concerns about overcapacity in the industry.
It is reported, alumina is the main raw material that produces electrolytic aluminium.In recent years, the production of alumina in China has increased rapidly, which has effectively guaranteed the development demand of electrolytic aluminum industry.With the decrease of domestic bauxite resources and grade, the proportion of overseas resources utilization gradually increases, and the alumina industry shows a trend of transferring to some coastal areas, gradually forming a development pattern in which inland areas mainly use domestic resources and coastal areas supplement with overseas resources.
The ministry of industry and information technology (miit) said that due to the fluctuations in the international market and rising prices at the beginning of 2018, some enterprises are blindly optimistic about the market prospect and rush to build a number of alumina projects in coastal areas, causing serious overcapacity worries for the industry and affecting the healthy development of the industry.
In response to the above situation, the notice mainly promotes the orderly and healthy development of alumina industry from the following aspects: strengthening scientific planning, strict project management, accelerating transformation and upgrading, implementing the main responsibility, strengthening publicity and guidance, strengthening supervision and inspection.
In terms of accelerating transformation and upgrading, relevant departments of the ministry of industry and information technology said that enterprises are encouraged to target advanced indicators, such as the comprehensive recovery rate of alumina reaching over 80%, the comprehensive energy consumption of alumina reaching less than 380 kg of standard coal per ton, and the consumption of new water per ton of alumina reaching less than 3 tons, so as to dig potential for standardization and promote the green development of the industry.
