The present situation of bauxite resources in the world

Reading guidance:

The global bauxite resources are abundant

The total amount of bauxite resources in the world is 30 billion tons, of which guinea accounts for 25%, Australia 20%, Vietnam 12%, Brazil 8% and Brazil 65%.China is the world's largest producer of alumina, with bauxite accounting for just 3 per cent.

If the current global bauxite reserves (30 billion tons) and annual mining volume (360 million tons) are calculated, the static service life is about 83 years, plus some countries and regions still have unproved resources, it can be determined that the development of the global aluminum industry has at least 100 years of resource guarantee.

The global bauxite deposits are divided into two categories: laterite deposits and sedimentary deposits. The laterite deposits account for 86% of the total global aluminum reserves and are the largest. The main ore types are trialuminite and trialuminite, monohydrous soft aluminite mixed ore.The ore is characterized by aluminum, low silicon and high aluminum-silicon ratio. The main distribution range is tropical, subtropical areas.Sedimentary deposits account for 11% of the total. The main ore types are monohydrous aluminite and monohydrous aluminite. The ore is characterized by high alumina, high silicon, medium and low aluminum-silicon ratio and low iron.Mainly distributed in temperate (China/Mediterranean) regions.

Bauxite development in each region has its own advantages.Guinea is a high alumina and low silicon type trihydralite, which is characterized by large reserves, high grade and easy exploitation.Australia is a high-aluminum-type three-water and one-water mixed mine, which is characterized by large reserves and easy large-scale mining.Brazil is a high aluminum and low silicon trihydrate, easy to mine but difficult to transport.Indonesia is a high-aluminum-silicon-type, low-temperature sanshui mine.

Domestic bauxite distribution

China's bauxite mining areas are mainly concentrated in shanxi (32%), henan (23%), guizhou (18%) and guangxi (19%) provinces (regions), accounting for more than 90% of the country's identified resources and reserves. The total scale of bauxite deposit is small, and the deposit type is the main type, and the quantity of deposit type and laterite type bauxite is small. The ore is dominated by refractory monohydrate bauxite with low alumina/silicon ratio, the ore aluminum/silicon ratio (Al/Si) is dominated by 4 ~ 6, and the high alumina/silicon ratio (Al/Si>8) has a small amount of ore, discontinuous distribution in the deposit, thin ore body and large grade fluctuation.

Global bauxite production

Global bauxite production has grown in waves in the past decade, with annual output of nearly 300m tonnes in 2017 compared with less than 200m tonnes in 2006.The first trough occurred in 2009, mainly because of falling production in India, Indonesia and Brazil. In 2014, it experienced the second trough, mainly due to the cliff drop in Indonesian production.Subsequently, the production of bauxite from guinea filled the gap in the market, and the global production increased year by year.

Regionally, Australia's bauxite output has been steadily increasing, from 61.78 million tons in 2006 to 87.9 million tons in 2017, making it the world's most important bauxite supply base.Guinea's bauxite production has accelerated in recent years, from 18.78 million tons in 2006 to 42.72 million tons in 2017, making it an emerging supply base.
